This session will provide specific information about the minimum due diligence requirements to make a grant to both U.S. and non-U.S. entities. The distinction between the basic legal requirements and other fact-finding activities will be discussed. Primary emphasis will be on determining and documenting the tax status of an entity in a streamlined manner with respect to both effort and paperwork.

Rightsizing means making application and reporting requirements appropriate to the size and type of grant and reflective of any existing relationship with the grantee. Often application and reporting requirements aren’t rightsized, which reduces net grants (total funding minus the true cost of getting and managing the grants). In today’s economy, which requires doing more with less, it is more important than ever to ensure that grantmakers are giving nonprofits the resources and flexibility they need to deliver on their missions.

How many ways can nonprofits slice-and-dice their financial information? Did you know foundations are the cause of much of the chopping and the resulting errors and misrepresentation? Project Streamline has taken a hard look at what financial information grantmakers require of applicants and grantees and the maze of templates, formats, time periods, and terminology. Hear how to both relieve the burden on grantees and ensure that your foundation is getting financial information with real integrity. Share your stories, questions, and thoughts on how to make sense of the numbers game.
